Energy Transition in the Republic of Congo: Challenges and The Way Forward

The concept of energy transition and its challenges as applied to the case of the Congo basin in general, and the Republic of Congo in particular, is the content of this book. Abundance of the natural resources, the structural poverty of the population and the poor doing business rating, constitute the key factors likely to delay the implementation of any energy transition plan in general, and the evolution towards a carbon-free energy mix in particular. Under these conditions, energy transition amounts to ensuring a balance between fossil fuels (the resources of which are not only available, but again have a significant socio-economic impact on the day to day life of the majority of Congolese), and the renewable energies (or clean energies) which have a big potential, but require the mobilization of a large amount of financial resources for their implementation. Furthermore, they require reforms on key areas such as the collective mental software and the community behaviors.
