The Templars and the crucifixion : Study of the capital of the crucifixion of Saint Peter at the church of the Templar commandery of Montsaunès (Haute Garonne) France

At the day when we read hieroglyphics like the alphabet, the sculptures of the Romanesque period keep for many, all their secrets. Here, a study of some capitals of the church of the commandery of Montsaunès, in Haute-Garonne, contributes to enlightening us on the relationship that the Templars had with the crucifixion. The feelings that the author shares with the reader should not make us forget the revelation, the subject of the work. Some will remain doubtful, but others will see it as the confirmation of a denial that had never been proven. The author, Alain Gournet, has been traveling Romanesque churches for many years, in search of understanding the message engraved in stone, by the Romanesque ‘ymagiers’. Sometimes, sculptures agree to deliver some of their secrets to him. His knowledge of Romanesque art and the spirit of the ‘ymagiers’, of sacred texts, allowed him to make a synthetic analysis of certain capitals of the Templar church of Montsaunès (31, France), which he presents to us here.
